Active solar heating systems use solar energy to heat a fluid which can be either air or liquid; and then transfer the solar heat directly to an interior space or to a storage system for use at another time. If the solar heating system cannot provide adequate heating performance, an auxiliary system or back-up system provides the additional heat.
